I just made a batch of Vegan, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Sugar-Free Soft Serve Banana & Coconut Ice Cream! Of course I won’t tell you that it tastes exactly like a dairy-based ice cream, but what it does taste like is creamy and delicious! It’s better than you may think! (Give it a try and let me know how it goes!).
By having the bananas really frozen hard it disguises the banana flavour (good if you don’t like bananas) and makes a really creamy frozen dessert (the coconut adds to this as well). This ice cream comes packed full of nutrients such as fibre (a pre-biotic) thanks to the bananas and medium-chain fatty acids courtesy of the coconut milk.
Remember the trick to this ice cream: The longer you freeze it the more like ice cream it becomes! So freeze for as long as possible.
Banana & Coconut Ice Cream (Vegan, Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free)
- a few ripe bananas, cut up and frozen (around 8-12 hrs)
- coconut milk or coconut cream
- Blend with coconut milk till smooth and thick.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon, carob or cacao powder.
- Serve with berries or other fruit.
- Try adding a raw egg yolk when blending to increase protein content.

What gorgeous pictures! And great writing to match… I love banana and a taste of coconut, I will have to give this recipe a try.
Thanks Healy!
This is also fantastic if you add in some raw organic honey and a juice of half a lemon :D and some chopped raw cashews on top or raw cacao powder mixed through are a couple of great varieties! :D
Yum that sound like great additions! Thanks for sharing Fi!
Wow! Just discovered your blog. Great pictures and ideas for real food recipes. I”m impressed! I have made something for years I called Frozen Banana Delight using sliced, frozen bananas, nut butter diluted 50:50 with H20 and chilled to make a cream (sweetened w/stevia +/- a dash of honey).
I also make dairy free, lower sugar (naturally sweetened) coconut milk frozen desserts using recipes from my book, The Ice Dream Cookbook: Dairy Free Ice Cream Alternatives with Gluten Free Cookies, Compotes & Sauces.
I have tried this recipe with different fruits and lactose free milk. The secret is to keep the fruit frozen for a couple of days for best result. I am unable to have coconut milk but found using Liddles lastose free non fat milk that has been in the fridge for few days works well. If I am using bananas I cut up 1 large banana or two small bananas and freeze. Adding one cup of milk a little at a time to the fruit in a blender (on chop) will make the soft icecream more fluffy. You can add your favourite spices with some nuts and seeds or just enjoy the soft icecreams with the two ingredients. Yummy!
Great tips Sharon! Thanks for stopping by and letting us all know how it went :)
