main pic of prune spelt porridgeThis is a really delicious warming winter-time breakfast. It uses the grain Spelt instead of oats to create a creamy porridge. Spelt is ancient form of wheat that is said to be much better for you.

Yield: Serves two.

You will need:

  • 1 C. of Spelt Berries
  • 3-4 C. of Water
  • A few grains of sea salt
  • 7-8 Prunes
  • Optional sweetener: e.g. Rapadura sugar, Honey or Maple syrup.
  • To serve: nuts and fresh fruit

  1. spelt-pruneporrground First grind your spelt berries till coarse, in a blender/grinder.
  2. spelt-pruneporrsoak Soak this over night in warm water and a few grains of salt.
  3. spelt-pruneporrcook In the morning cook your spelt with about 2 cups of water, cinnamon and chopped prunes. Cook this until it becomes a creamy consistency.
  4. spelt-pruneporrapp Serve with your favourite sweetener and fruit (optional). I like rapadura sugar, grated apple and some crushed almonds.

I hope you enjoy this recipe!

Now I have a question for you! Have you ever used spelt berries in your cooking? If so what did you do?

Thank you for this recipe! I made this today, and it turned out delicious! I love that you grinded the kernels beforehand, I hadn’t thought of that, but this way spelt becomes so much more creamy and sweet! Thanks again!
